This article gives a reflection on justice and law in ancient Egypt. Abstract Although past research has been done on justice in law, the current challenges necessitate a new approach to understanding true justice in law. Le présent article examine cetteéventualité. Le concept de maat de l'Egypte ancienne et leur compréhension de l'équilibre pourrait nousêtre utiles dans cette démarche. Une meilleure compréhension de l'idée de justice et de la finalité du droit dans l'Egypte ancienne pourrait permettre de mieux comprendre le but réel de la justice, particulièrement dans le contextedu droit, dans notre monde moderne. Ils en ont reçu le crédit et pourtant très peu est écrit au sujet des concepts plus égyptiens qui étaient plus vieux et qui auraient influencé le monde antique, spécialement les philosophes grecs. Les anciens philosophes grecs et romains et d'autres plus récents ont joué un important rôleà cet égard. L'idée de justice et du droit s'est développée au cours des siècles. Cet article se penche sur la justice et le droit en Egypte ancienne.
The method used to address this question was a descriptive analysis of terminology in ancient Egyptian fiction and the primary source discussed is the Tale of the eloquent peasant, a narrative from the Middle Kingdom.īien que la recherche ait déjàétémenée sur la justice en droit, les défis actuels exigent une nouvelle approche pour comprendre la vraie justice en droit. AIM AND METHODOLOGY The aim of this paper is to determine how the concept of "justice" manifests itself in the law and the legal system of the ancient Egyptians. This important work has a strong legal background and shows the interaction between law and justice. I discuss terms used in the Tale of the eloquent peasant relating to justice and law and evaluate it as a source of information about ancient Egyptian law and the principles of law and justice in that era. I indicate that there is abundant evidence of written law in Egypt and they must have had a functional legal system. Law was essential for them and was not merely earthly hpw, but also the divine law, M3`t. I explore the importance of law for the ancient Egyptian society, which had a high reputation for justice, and discuss what the ancient Egyptians understood by the terms hp/hpw. In this article I focus on whether law and a functional legal system (hpw) existed in ancient Egypt. Justice (ma‛at) governed the lives of ancient Egyptians because they saw no difference between divine and human justice.
